Unsolicited Advice: advice given to you without you asking for any advice. Typically it's given with the best of intentions with the idea to help.
I get this all the time in regards to my career path (or should I say the lack there of). I understand that people are just trying to help, but they act as if I haven't heard everything under the stars or thought of it myself already. I hate having the same conversation over and over again so I avoid this topic like the plague. Sometimes it's not so easy and when you meet new people you go through the typical conversational pieces. So I'm well versed in my answers. I still don't like it, but I'm polite and try to change the topic as fast as I can. There are times however, that it's just too much and I'm not as polite.
This is me on the phone listening to yet another person giving me unsolicited career advice and a time where I wasn't as polite. I think the silence on my end let the person know how I felt and the conversation ended quickly after that.
People, you can't fix me or force me into something I don't want to do. Thank you, but no thanks. I'll figure this one out on myself.
