A couple of days ago I started taking Tegretol. Turns out I have a lovely nerve disorder called Trigeminal Neuralgia. Oh, it won't kill me so don't worry. It does however, cause very sharp, stabbing, electric-shock like pains in my head. They go from the back of my head stopping behind my eyes and forehead mainly. Sometimes I had felt it in other parts of my face. The nerve just goes wakko, what can I say. Maybe it's nervous :)

I'd been having these head pains off and on since last summer and finally got checked out recently. I had an MRI done...that was interesting and boring. You're just laying there in this tube with nothing to do. It's no problem aside from the fact it was freezing in there. I was so cold. And you know how you're supposed to stay as still as possible? Well, that becomes extra hard when you're trying not to shiver from the A/C. :) Isn't my MRI picture freaky? haha!

MRI Scan

It came back clean so it's all good. So why does this happen? I don't know. Doctors aren't sure either. "It just happens", is the answer I got. Excelent! Will it go away? Maybe. Possibly. Whatever. So right now, I'm taking this medication and the only side effect I've had is that it makes me kind of tired. I've found that if I keep busy the tiredness is not a problem. But as soon as I just stop and sit down, I feel like I need an energy drink.

What I think is the most WTF part of this all is that this is a disorder that predominately aflicts people over the age of 50. I ain't no 50 year old WTF! I guess I'm just special that way.

i always fall asleep in the machines and then freak out because I always wake with a start and think that I moved and messed the scan up!

It's cool looking at all the different MRI pics that came out. That's the clearest one that came out before it delved back into my brain :)

That looks too cool. Anyway... i know exactly what you mean. When I had my spine MRI'd... they told me they've never seen that kind of a spine in somebody my age... only professional athletes... which I'm far from. I have a spine of an 80 year old apparently.

Maybe it means we're getting old before our time.... :)

I have that too...combination of damage from a quinolone that caused neuropathy/nerve damage (you take levaquin? cipro? avelox?) and and then dental trauma not soon after that.  acupuncture is said to be helpful.  i'm also working on mine with a vitamin regimen (b complex, vita c, calcium/mag).

I just saw your message today Cindi. Sorry for not responding sooner. I was given Tegretol. I've been taking it for the past 6 months twice a day. It's definitely helped. Now I'm down to once a day. Hopefully it's corrected itself, but most days I'm not that optimistic and think it's going to reappear...since it's never REALLY left through these 6 months.

Yeah, I take vitamin b complex also. Not really sure why that's supposed to be good, but the neurologist said to take it...And exercise. We'll see what happens.
