A Quick Catch Up

It's been a while since I've blogged. I've been pretty busy. I thought that now over the summer I would be able to catch up, but just as the school year ended, camp started. So I have no time.

A quick catch up:

1. The kids Opera was excellent. We had a blast working on it even though I developed insomnia.
2. I'm trying to recooperate from the insomnia.
3. I lost weight and won some money at the same time which all went towards gas anyway. I hope to maintain myself and not put it all back on.
4. Minga died (pet ferret). She was old and had a good life.
5. I joined the Wii-volution.
6. Antonio & Andrea get married on Saturday!!!

Tales From 35,000 ft In The Air

I know it's been a while since I've updated my blog. What can I say, I've been busy.

Anyway, I had to share this story. Random things are always happening to me and my flight back from Fl was no exception. First of all, I was in Tampa this past weekend at Mike and Jill's wedding. Congrats guys! Flying up there was easy...a direct flight. Coming back, well, that wasn't so easy.

For whatever reason, I had to fly from Tampa to Miami and then to Puerto Rico. Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me, but whatever. So I flew to Miami and that was fine. Of course I had a few hours to kill when I got there since my next flight was at night. So I wait, charge my phone which wasn't easy. There is a shortage of working electrical wall outlets on concourse C of the Miami airport. Everyone fights over the few sockets. Hours go by and it's finally time to board my flight home. But wait, where's the plane? It hadn't arrived yet, so more waiting.

It finally arrived and we board only to sit there for another hour. Why? I don't know. After that hour, we take off and the ride is normal. Until we reach PR. So we're right above PR and the captain has said, "Prepare for landing", when 10 seconds later he pulls way up. WTF anyone. The next thing we here is, "I apologize, but we can't land in PR right now. There's a storm right over the airport and safety comes first. So, we're being rerouted to Santo Domingo (The Dominican Republic) and we'll wait out the storm there". Uhm....ok.

So we fly to DR, land and do more waiting. Of course we weren't allowed to get off the plane. There were so many annoying people around me. They'd been drinking wine and talking all flight long. I seriously just wanted to get away from them, but couldn't. Then they were talking as if they were the only one's who were having this problem. Annoying. After about almost an hour in DR, we take off again and head home. I spent more than 4hrs on a plane trying to get home from Miami. I finally made it home at 2am.

The wedding was amazing and reception was loads of fun! Thank you for inviting me. It was great to be a part of your day and be able to hang out with great friends also. I wish I could've gone to the BBQ, but there was that pesky thing called a flight to catch.

Have you seen the new Janet Jackson video? I'm sure 'cause it's always on. Not sure I like or understand the concept of the video. Putting that aside, no one does dancing like Janet. Always backed up by a slew of awesome dancers, the choreography always looks great.

Lock Up That Baby Formula

Tonight I had to stop by Kmart to get a few things. One of which was my TN medication. Since it wasn't ready I roamed the mart aimlessly for about 45min. I visited the electronic department and saw the TV's I can't buy. I walked around the clothes section and saw underwear for sale. Then I stopped by the baby section to see if they had another gate like we have in the ktichen, but no. As I was leaving, I passed by the baby food and drink aisle. That's when I stopped and was amazed at what I saw.

The baby formula in powder form is under lock and key! WTF?!?! Does it have some alcohol content I'm not aware of? Do you now get carded if you want to buy a can of baby formula? There is beer and wine free for anyone to pick up and stock up, but the baby powder formula is behind locked glass??? Who knew the most dangerous stuff was in the baby aisle!

This just didn't make sense to me. It still really doesn't. I mean, is it because it's a popular item to steal? Not having a kid myself I am unaware of the powdered formula thefts or the black market retail value of this stuff. Hey, if it's behind a locked glass door, there must be a reason.

I just found this very odd.

Baldwin Alumni Holiday Party 2007

Last night was the annual Baldwin Alumni party. This year it was at a place called La Plage...? said like plash...I don't know...The beach. It was nice. At one point I went into the bathroom and there was some girl looking like she was going to puke just sitting there infront of the sink. The water was running and her hand was in the water, but she wasn't washing her hands. I asked her if she was ok. She said yes. Apparently this was her way of making ground..."getting intouch with reality" I think she said. Riiiiight....I walked out.

I Am Legend

Robert Neville (Will Smith) voluntarily stays behind in NYC in hopes of finding a cure to the virus that has wiped out the earth's population in less than three years transforming those infected into aggressive, hairless, hungry zombies.

To me the human turned aggressive zombie virus was used already in 30 Days/30 Days Later. Sure there are differences. The virus in I Am Legend is an unexpected side effect of curing another illness. Also, the zombies are computer made. It would've been better to see real people zombies in this movie, like in 30 Days. There's just times I'm so over cgi.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie. There's this sense of desperation all throughout that just kept building. It's a completely desperate situation. You're the only normal, non-infected human as far as you know. Your only companion is a dog and you interact with store manequins. For about three years you've been chased by zombies that want to eat you and you haven't found a cure. Anyone would be desperate.

I liked the way the city was transformed into this abandoned, desolate concrete land where deer and lions run free. I didn't like, aside from the cgi zombies, the fact that for such a smart person, Dr. Neville has some mayor brain farts that caused a hell of a lot of trouble for him. I guess it all goes back to the desperation. Also, the zombies are portrayed as mindless creatures and then as exhibiting rational thought. Ok...so which is it? Dumb zombie or smart zombie?

The more I think about it, the more questions I have so I'll just stop. As far as movies go, it was entertaining. But where in the world did that woman get a brand new shiny car from??? No more questions!!!!

My Birthday!

All right! So it was my birthday. At work I was surprised with a cake. Then I went out to dinner with some friends. The day after I had the actual party which was loads of fun. I made Jello shots which I'd never done before. Jello shots aren't a common thing in PR parties so I didn't know how they were going to be received. Ok....they were the first thing to go! Jello shots were a hit!

Antonio and Andrea made lots of food and gave me the over-sized number balloons. The funny and sad part of that is that the next day when I went to bring them inside, the zero had flown away. Looks like it wasn't tied too good to the weight. It had been pretty windy and rainy these past couple of days....so the zero jumped ship. I still have the three!

Stephen King's The Mist

A small town becomes trapped under a mist filled with unmentionable killing power. Right, ok. I was curious to see what was in the mist. And it's Stephen King, so it atleast had to be entertaining, right? What is they say...curiosity killed the cat? People, stay curious.

After the mist falls, a group of town's people are trapped in a supermarket trying to figure out the best way to stay alive. As quickly as they become trapped, they lose all sense of rational though. The new supermarket township if you will, is quickly divided into two groups. On one side you have the followers and on the other side you have the thinkers. By followers, I mean, they become entranced with Mrs. Carmody's (Marcia Gay Harden) religious rants. Their mob mentality led by Mrs. Carmody drives them to do anything she says no questions asked. The thinkers just want to get the hell out of there and as far away from the mist as possible.

I will give the movie credit for Marcia Gay Harden's role. It was well acted and annoying as hell. I definitely enjoyed her character's over-due death. That's about it though. The movie was full of bad acting and this socio-moral-religious experiment that pops up in the market was ridiculous. Also, was this supposed to be a horror, Sci-fi thriller? It was more like an extremely bad comedy. As for what was in the mist? Starship Troopers did it better.

What can I say about the ending...it's the only real twist in the movie and I just rolled my eyes. The movie is completely predictable and not worth whatever you have to pay to see it. Stay away from The Mist.
