You wouldn't know it from the pictures, but this is the party where everyone was at. I ran into SO many people last night it was freaking me out! But anyway, the music was good. Deep Dish didn't arrive till much later...around 3am I think. Apparently their flight was delayed...I don't know.

This was an attempt at trying to capture a bit of how this boat was moving. It seriously looks like we're trying to escape from something :)

I went to FL this past weekend. A couple of friends made it a long weekend and headed over to Tampa.
I was the last one to arrive so thursday night was chill for me.

Friday, we BBQ'd and Mike bought an XBOX 360, so there was lots of game playing for the boys. Us girls headed to the salon. No, I didn't partake in the activities, but I did keep Jill and Alyssa company :) GIRLFRIEND!!!!! hahahaha! Later on that night, we went to a place called The Lobby...Or The Garden...I don't know. We met up with a friend of Shawn and Alyssa's, Andrew. And there was some nice music being spinned. Drink, drink, shot, drink, drink, shot, drink makes one drunk Suzy. After the place closed we had some seriously good, but scortching hot pizza and then went back to Mike's place. Contrary to what Rich believes, I didn't wake him up....it was other people. :)

Saturday was a nice, sunny-but CHILLY day outside. And when you're on a boat with constant wind hitting you, I was freezing at times. It was fun watching Dylan being thrown around the boat. I was watching out to see if he would fall over board. When we got to this waterfront restaurant, that's something I mentioned to Alyssa in the bathroom and some random lady joined in our conversation. When we left the bathroom I look back and she's chatting it up with Dylan. Apparently this woman flashed Dylan for whatever reason. It was turning into quite the interesting excursion.

Sunday we headed to the stadium for the Bucks-Redskins game. We tailgated for a while and headed to the game before kick off. Sunday was finally a warm day. There was a breeze going so there was still cold wind, but with the constant sun it finally felt good. Not that it mattered much by then because I was already feeling my cold return. Ah well. After the game we headed to a sports bar, had food, drinks, football on tv and good company. We stayed out for a bit, but not a long night since all our flights were super early this morning.

Cool trip! Thanks to Mike and Jill for everything. You guys are great! And Shawn and Alyssa, thanks for taking us out on the boat and for the post game entertainment. :)

Volver is Pedro Almodovar's new movie starring Penelope Cruz. The movie revolves around this family of strong-willed women. Raimunda (Cruz) and her sister Soledad (Lola Dueñas), come from a town where the women out live the men. Their parents have died and people in town say Irene's spirit, their mother (Carmen Maura), has come back. There are secrets upon secrets that explain the decisions these women have made during their lives. Decisions without knowing all the facts, to spare or save someone else and just simply out of love.

The movie is definitely worth seeing. One thing I find interesting is Penelope Cruz. You see her in these spanish films and she's a wonderful, talented actress. I don't understand why her english roles just haven't been up to par. And you can't particularly count Vanilla Sky because that was just a remake of Abre Los Ojos...which by the way, is 10 times better than the english version. Anyway, that's just a tangent and observation.

The characters are funny, mysterious and relatable. Almodovar movies are always attention grabbers and this one is no exception. Go see it. :)

Winter Passing is the latest movie I've seen. The movie revolves around Reese (Zooey Deschanel), who is a painfully lost actress trying to make it in NYC. She's approached by a book editor who wants to publish her dead mother's letters to her father. With the offer of money lingering over her head, she decides to take a trip home to see if she can find the letters in question. She hasn't been back since she was 18 years old so when she finally makes it home, she finds things have changed a bit. There are now 2 strangers living in her home. There's Corbit (Will Ferrell), the awkward man-boy wanna be musician and Shelly (Amelia Warner), a former student of her father. Where's her father? Don (Ed Harris) has moved out of the house and settled into the garage.

There definitely are some interesting dynamics between all these characters. They've created this pseudo family between them that at times Reese seems to find odd, but then seems to expect nothing less from her crazy writer dad. Even though the movie itself is slow, the slowness ads to the pain. Pain is definitely the main character in this movie. Reese is in pain from the way she was raised and her father's in pain from losing his wife. Healthy coping skills aren't on the list in this family either. Zooey Deschanel is good at playing these types of characters and Ed Harris is great, you can really feel his dispair.

All in all, I thought the movie was all right even if it is slow and painful. Even so, it goes to show you there's nothing like pain caused by family and they're the only one's who can make it better.

If you've ever read or skimmed through a years worth of my blogs and pictures, you'd know that I don't delve into politics on here. I made a conscious choice not to go there because it can be a sensitive, anger charged and draining topic. However, I saw something last night that I think everyone should watch.

HBO is showing a documentary called Hacking Democracy. It really does expose how flawed the vote counting actually is, how easily the new electronic/optical voting process can be hacked and how secretive something so public has become. I think everyone has their own opinion on the subject of voter fraud and if there was any in the last election. I'm not getting into all that, but this is a documentary worth watching no matter where you stand politically.

Puerto Rico has never had the right to vote for President and we definitely have our own issues when it comes to vote counting. If you take anything away from the documentary, let it be that things need to change to make sure your vote actually DOES count in a true democracy. I believe everyone can agree on that.

Check out the HBO's Hacking Democracy schedule here.

Even though I feel a little under the weather, I went out last night to a Halloween party at Pink Skirt. We got there around midnight and it was packed. It just kept getting even more packed as time went on. The music was awesome, the costumes were cool and everyone was having a good time. There was no way I was wearing that plastic Devo outfit again...I'd sweat my ass off! So earlier that day I had bought a cheap yellow shirt and glued the letters on there.

Then around 3am, the music stops and an impromtu birthday chant starts. After that the music never came back on and people didn't know why. Turns out that down the street there had been a fire. Not just any fire, but someone had set a Ducati that was parked on the side of the road on fire. So the thing burns and the car right next to it catches on fire as well. There were cops and firemen all over the place and to avoid any sort of clash with them, the party ended earlier than expected.

People seriously use Halloween as an excuse to do the dumbest things.

So I just got back from my halloween trip to MD/DC/VA. I had a good time, but so many things happened on this trip that I don't know how to classify it. I'll start at the beginning:

The night before I left, I was up till 5am making the Dabu cd for the party. For those of you who don't know, we always make a cd as a gift at the halloween party. So, while I was making them my cd drive started acting funny. Does this sound familiar...oh wait, please refer to Dead Drive back in Sept. While it was acting funny, it was still recording and sometimes corrupting the cd's. At one point, I left one burning and went to the kitchen. There was talking to my parents and standing next to the stove. Our stove is on an island and is one of those flat glass panel tops. As the baseball game is going to start, the lights go out and there's a very loud explosion boom noise that comes out of the stove. Yes, it scared us all and when we got to lights back on, we left the stove breaker off. So I check my computer and my driver is not working. Lovely. So I had to finish the rest on my sister's laptop which was fine, but that's why it took so long...her laptop's a little slow.

So I finish, lay down for a bit only to be woken up at 5:15am since I had a very early flight. Flight to Miami was good. Flight from Miami to DC, well...there was a crying baby on board. That baby cried for 2 and a half hours. There I am not having slept since monday and I'm sitting next to a crying baby. Fun! So I get to DC, have dinner with my brother and later meet up with some of his friends. By then I was really tired and only had one drink at the bar. I wanted to sleep, but I was out till 1am. After a night's rest, I took the train to Baltimore and stayed with my friend Marissa. We were supposed to go to this restaurant for dinner, but we never made it. In the spirit of this strange trip, as soon as we get into the city, there was a detour. So that led to trying to find a back way to the restaurant which led to more detour....which then led to getting completely lost for an hour and a half and ending up back around her house. Friday night, my friend Julie was driving down from PA so she picked me up and we headed to Bethesda. We hung out for a bit and then I took the metro to VA. Lots of drunk people on the metro at midnight :)

Got to VA and proceeded to almost kill Chris by drinking almost an entire bottle of rum by ourselves. Saturday was the party in Columbia, MD. We were the first to arrive at Rich's parents house and Rich was already drunk off his ass. hehe. Drank, had fun, laughed at people who got stuck on the dishwasher....and ended up spending the night there. Sunday, passed out on Chris's couch and didn't even take my shoes off and later that night we chilled at Shawn and Alyssa's place for a while before I headed back to DC. Monday (yesterday) I was HURTIN'! My weekend had definitely caught up to me. I have bruises on my knees and have no idea where they came from and my body just ached in general.

So I get to the airport and everything is fine. Get to Miami, everything's fine...I had a 3 hour wait which turned into 5. The plane we had to take was an international flight coming in from Bogota...which was delayed to begin with. By the time it got there and customs checked the plane blab blah....it was late. Got on the plane, sat next to some dude who snored and farted. And that was my quite odd trip.

I felt like watching a movie this afternoon. So I went to see Little Miss Sunshine.

Completely liked this movie from beginning to end. The family is full of characters. The mom played by Toni Collette is a high strung, working mom who's all about the honesty. The dad played by Greg Kinnear is obsessed with becoming the next big self-help step program inventor. Grandfather's a foul mouthed heroin user played by Alan Arkin. The son has taken a vow of silence, the daughter is all about beauty pagents and Steve Carell's the uncle who's just come out of the hospital. The family learns Olive, the daughter, has won a beauty contest because the original winner was disqualified and now has the opportunity to be in this other pagent. They all get on the family VW bus and drive to California. So many crazy things happen on the way there. It's funny, insane, touching and unbelievable. This family is crazy and the craziness works for them.

Definitely check out this movie if you have the chance.

Last night there was a surprise birthday party for Geena. It's always a little stressful trying to keep a group of people quiet in the dark...someone always ends up laughing. But it worked out fine and she had absolutely no idea.
