Andrea's mom, Debbie, is in town on vacation. Last night we went to Margarita's Mexican Restaurant for dinner. It was a little packed so the services was a little slower that usual. That's when the object picture taking started :) Just killing time waiting for the food.

So I spoke a day early. All the chicks came out of their shells the day after my previous post.

Let the fun begin.
March 26, 2007
Hm. So the chicken has been laying on her eggs for a while now. Today I was taking the tash out and saw a chick. Oh great, the eggs have started to hatch. Now the fun starts all over again with the neighbor's complaints and animal attacks. I have no problem with the one chicken. As you know, I helped clean her up after the rooster pecked at her when she tangled herself up in the table cloth. But it's completely different having 8 to 10 chick running around, getting into your neighbor's backyard, crossing the street etc.

I'm not trying to be incharge of these chicks. Once they're all born, I'd call a family friend and have him take them to his farm. He did once before and that's best. Let's see if we can do that again this time. It might be a little harder this time. Last time they were born in an enclosed area. This time they can pretty much run wild.

I had never heard of let alone seen anyone do ear candling before. So when Andrea came over the house I had to take pictures. It's crazy looking for sure :) Andrea is famous for having really hard ear wax and has to go to the doc's office to have it removed. No, Q-Tips don't work for her. She'll be the first to tell you that. Well, now she's found ear candling. So weird. She said she could feel it suck the wax out and her hearing improved. Guess this works for her.

When did toothbrush handles get so big they stopped fitting into the wholes of the toothbrush holder?

This I just don't get. It reminds me of how everything's bigger for little kids so it's easier to hold. But as an adult, you're supposed to be able to hold a regular toothbrush. And it's not just Colgate. When I went to buy a new brush recently, I saw that all the companies have bigger handles now. Why?
Next it'll be bigger pens and pencils just like when we were little and learning to write.

A couple of days ago I started taking Tegretol. Turns out I have a lovely nerve disorder called Trigeminal Neuralgia. Oh, it won't kill me so don't worry. It does however, cause very sharp, stabbing, electric-shock like pains in my head. They go from the back of my head stopping behind my eyes and forehead mainly. Sometimes I had felt it in other parts of my face. The nerve just goes wakko, what can I say. Maybe it's nervous :)
I'd been having these head pains off and on since last summer and finally got checked out recently. I had an MRI done...that was interesting and boring. You're just laying there in this tube with nothing to do. It's no problem aside from the fact it was freezing in there. I was so cold. And you know how you're supposed to stay as still as possible? Well, that becomes extra hard when you're trying not to shiver from the A/C. :) Isn't my MRI picture freaky? haha!

It came back clean so it's all good. So why does this happen? I don't know. Doctors aren't sure either. "It just happens", is the answer I got. Excelent! Will it go away? Maybe. Possibly. Whatever. So right now, I'm taking this medication and the only side effect I've had is that it makes me kind of tired. I've found that if I keep busy the tiredness is not a problem. But as soon as I just stop and sit down, I feel like I need an energy drink.
What I think is the most WTF part of this all is that this is a disorder that predominately aflicts people over the age of 50. I ain't no 50 year old WTF! I guess I'm just special that way.

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, a few of us went to Shannan's Pub like half the island did as well. It was pretty damn packed. We got there at 5pm and I ended up leaving at 11pm. There was still a line to get in when I left. A good time was had, but I couldn't take much more of the place by 10pm. I was pretty tired and by midnight I was already falling asleep in my comfy bed. :)
Thanks to Claudia and Gabriela for sharing some of these pictures. :)

Last night Arnaldo, Karla and myself went to el Nuyorican to see Ardnaxela perform. I kept imaging Tarantino films while I listened to her set. It was funky cool :)

This was the first time I'd EVER been in the Nuyorican. I've always just stood outside in the alley with friends. People always commented on how bad the sound is in that place, but not last night. Everything sounded great. It gives me hope that not all in PR is lost to reggaeton.

Old man Maurice (Peter O'Toole) becomes infatuated with Ian's (Leslie Phillips)
young, crude and unrefined niece's daughter Jessie (Jodie Whittaker). Jessie has been sent to live and take care of Ian while also trying to make a life for herself in the city. Set in his ways, Ian can't deal or come to understand Jessie's craziness which only causes him stress. Maurice however, embraces it. They build a strange relationship based on him desiring her and she using that to her advantage. At the same time, they learn important life lessons like compassion, beauty, understanding and caring for others.
It's obvious Maurice wants to see Jessie naked...among other things. So everthing he does: the talks, the outings, the suggested job and spending money on her, are all directed towards reaching that goal. The fact it's an old man doing this, makes it more disturbing. Even so, Jessie isn't unaware of all this. She's no saint and no victim either. They definitely use each other, they seem to like it and they become important to each other. So there's no feeling bad for either of them.
At first glance, I didn't like this movie. The dirty old man bit was disturbing to me, even though Jessie played right along with it. There are some funny moments and I can appreciate Ian's death neurosis. However, the movie was very slow and I actually fell asleep somewhere towards the end of it. This would be the 2nd movie EVER where boredom caused a quick nap (the first being Hunt For Red October).
Venus felt like a dramatic version of Grumpy Old Men to me. I maybe alone in that thought, but it's what came to mind. By the end, you do see Jessie's transformation into a more caring person having actually learned something from Maurice. And I went from not liking it to thinking it wasn't completely bad. Even though the acting was good, it wasn't enough to keep my attention. It's a too slow life movie that I could never quite get into.

Yesterday was my sister's 24th birthday. We went to Guayama to eat with my parents and ended up spending all afternoon over there. A few of them disappeared with my father through the golf course and ended up having a photo shoot with Chi Chi Rodriguez. :) So instead of a lunch, we had dinner at the Arco Iris seafood restaurant. I'm not a big seafood person, so I had the chicken :) I asked for ketchup and got one fast food ketchup package. You know, those packs you get at McD's...It was just too funny. I asked the waiter for ketchup since there was none at the table and he comes back with ONE pack. I took it and you should've seen my face, "WTF?"....then he left and came back and gave me a second pack. It was hilarious. Maybe he had to go back and ask for permission to give me a second pack! hehe :)

Yesterday afternoon was Sophia's baby shower. We went and had fun acting like little kids :) I'm not familiar with baby shower games, but everyone got a clothes pin. If you crossed your legs or arms someone could take your pin away. I guess whoever had the most pins by the end of the shower, they were the winner. I gave mine away 'cause I had to leave early....but not before we took some silly pictures :)

Todd Sines was in PR this past weekend. He played at Waterclub, but I never made it there on friday night. I did see him spin at Pink Skirt saturday night. When I first got there it wasn't too packed since there was also a reggae concert that night as well as Cotto's fight. After that let out though, there was hardly any room to move :) The music was great, people were really into it and it was a fun night.

Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant give us yet another romantic comedy called Music and Lyrics. Hugh plays Alex Fletcher, an 80's pop star who seems content scrapping by on his former glory perfoming anywhere he can get booked (mainly fairs and parks). Drew plays Sophie Fisher, a slightly neurotic quirky character who has very little social grace so her foot ends up in her mouth often. Alex gets the chance to come back from musical obscurity and wants it. All he has to do is write a new duet for the current "flavor of the moment" teen pop star, Cora Corman. The problem is he has about 3 days to do this and he's a horrible writer. During the song writing process, Sophie's off watering the plants and can't help chiming in. Before she knows it, she's part of the process.
Throughtout the movie you get all the staples of a romantic comedy. Funny and flawed characters, the first meet, the attraction build up, the inevitable fight, realization of feelings, the over-the-top win back gesture and a happy ending. It's a simple, silly, feel good movie. Drew and Hugh are known for these types of roles and are quite successful at them. Drew is slightly odd and always lovable. Even when she's confronting an issue from the past, you can't help but laugh at her reaction. And no one does light-hearted, witty sarcasm better than Hugh. Plus, they work well with each other.
You do end up laughing all through the movie. How can you not when you see Hugh in the Wham! 80's imitation band called Pop! ? The movie is silly and yes, predictable. It's definitely not the best movie out there. However, if you're looking to laugh and be entertained without expecting much, then this movie delivers. Sometimes you need silliness, you know? It made me laugh. I was entertained for that hour and a half. Mission accomplished.
